This brass box is part of a collection of medical items donated by the family of Dr Victor Wallace who practised general medicine from the surgery in his home in Neerim Road, Hughesdale.
The box is approximately 34 cm long and was used for boiling surgical instruments on a stove top, before the advent of autoclaving.
The box contains a comprehensive collection of instruments used in general medical practice at the time.
