History Monash Inc was delighted to welcome Year 6 students from Oakleigh Grammar School on two occasions in August 2026. Teacher Katherine Jackson has created a guided learning resource based upon the current History Monash exhibition: Oakleigh – a changing multicultural community. The students researched information in the exhibition, discovered aspects of the Oakleigh Pioneer Memorial Park next door, and were given a fascinating talk by John Apeitos whose Greek-Cypriot parents were one of the first Greek families to settle in Oakleigh. John spoke about growing up in Oakleigh, his parents’ active involvement in the Greek community and how his childhood helped to develop his international career as a conductor of opera and symphony.
