History Monash Inc (HM) launched its “Historic Oakleigh” exhibition on 18 May 2021. The exhibition was opened by City of Monash Mayor, Councillor Brian Little, and was well attended by HM members, sponsors and members of the community.
In her welcome, President Helen Gobbi thanked the City of Monash for supporting this exhibition through a Community Strengthening Program grant. The grant was a great boost to HM during a difficult year from the perspective of COVID restrictions. It has enabled HM to present this exhibition depicting the history of Oakleigh and surrounds from before European settlement to recent times. The curator of the exhibition was Helen Gobbi, who is also the historian for History Monash Inc.
The President also thanked other sponsors including Community Bank Pinewood, the Rotary Club of Oakleigh Clayton Huntingdale, Barry Plant Bayside and the Public Record Office Victoria. Charles Kovess represented Community Bank Pinewood, of which he is Director, and for whom he presents the Monash Community Podcasts. (Look for Monash Community Podcast in your search engine to find this program which presents interesting community leaders in the City of Monash.)
This exhibition will resume later in 2022, following two new exhibitions. (See What’s On- Events)
